Ferrari 854 Prototipo, 1959. The “Ferrarina” was powered by a SOHC 854cc 4 cylinder engine that produced 75hp (an impressive figure for a sub 1 litre engine in the 1950s) and was, in effect, one third of a Colombo V12. The tubular chassis was designed by Giotto Bizzarrini (who was still working for Ferrari at the time) and the bodywork was based on a Fiat 1200. Ferrari decided not to pursue the idea and in 1962 ASA (Autocostruzioni Società per Azioni) was formed to continue the project to produce a less expensive, compact alternative to existing Ferrari models
